I'm back home for Christmas so the snacks are out, the fire is on, Christmas soundtrack is on my itunes and I have lots of time to blog all of my most recent shoots. Starting with the above shoot with Lucy McCadden at Boss. This story was shot on a cold and windy day in Blackpool at the end of November... I like to choose the most glamorous of locations for my shoots! Massive thanks to the whole team for toughing the cold... Hair & Make Up by Rebecca Anderton & Styling by Zoe Hancock. Every time I go away, I always take my film camera. I come back home with loads of films and I get excited because I have forgotten what is on them. The pictures always make me happy so I have decided to take my film camera with me all the time to create a sort of diary in pictures. Each test or job I do I am shooting a couple of out-takes so eventually I will have a collection of nice film portraits. Here is number one. Sarah - 16/10/2011.

Sacred Geometry

This will be one of my last posts before I go to America! I leave in a week so it has officially entered the time period when I have to start dropping it into every conversation!

These images are from a collaborative test shoot last weekend with textile and prop design team 'Sacred Geometry'.

Sacred Geometry are Mariel Osborn and Anna Beam and they are based in Islington Mill. Their work ranges from conceptual set pieces to more fashion oriented body props and accessories. They have some amazing stuff, more of which can be seen on their blog http://www.crystallinecompound.blogspot.com/

Our model was Lauren Earth who was amazing as usual. Always a pleasure to work with, Lauren struck the right balance being able to look strong but also quite pure... almost ethereal.

Hair & Make Up artist was Kaye Fleming who really did a brilliant job creating a look that was really striking without being too heavy or overdone. One of those days where everything comes together!

When A Train Goes By Its Such A Sad Sound

This story was shot exactly a week after the riots, an eerie twilight zone time. Nowhere was more eerie than this location though. I say location but actually it was just at estate that time forgot. We all felt like we had walked into the late 80s. With the series I wanted to capture a feeling that I think so many young people go through. That feeling when you are waiting for life to start... stuck in a crap place that you can't escape from. A hopeless feeling which unfortunately seems to be getting more and more common. The series features Rona again who is just brilliant. I don't really know what to say other than that! For clothes Paddy Razzi was in charge using a selection of Rona's own clothes and some pieces from his shop 'Oh Hell' which can be found in Afflecks Palace, Manchester.

We shot this story in the afternoon after a studio session, the results of which will be posted soon!

So as previously mentioned here is my first shoot for my models at home project featuring Heather Nelson. We shot at Zoe Hancock's house who also did an amazing job of styling the series. I really like the energy and colour in the images although I am not sure whether to keep the same style throughout the project. I guess we'll see how it develops!

On Saturday I kicked off my new project 'Models at Home' with Heather Nelson. For Heather as a practice run we didn't shoot at her own home on this occasion as I wanted to trial the idea with a stylist. Therefore we went to Zoe's house (which happens to be possibly the best house I have ever seen). The pictures from that shoot will be up soon, however in the meantime I wanted to share some images that me and Heather took at the studio before we set off. We spent a fun half an hour being 'creative' (code word for 'rolling around my studio like a couple of idiots')

The images are beautiful and remind me why I love photographing people. Heather was such a pleasure to work with. Very beautiful, natural and intelligent. Far wiser than her 20 (or 21 in a month as she would have it) years.

The images above were shot just before Christmas for the January issue of Manchester City Council's in house magazine.

The article told the story of Oscar... a bit of a Manchester hero. Oscar works at a council-run landfill site but also dedicates his time to charity work. The article mainly focuses on Oscar's time spent collecting old bike parts from the landfill, piecing them together and polishing them up to create new bicycles for kids in the local community.

But Oscar's inspiration doesn't stop there! My favourite of his regular good deeds is that whenever lost or stolen wallets turn up at the tip, Oscar tries his best to track down the owner and sends it back to them with a fiver popped in for goodwill!

What a lovely man.

It is 7am and I have just spent the night working. I started at 8pm with an evening shoot and then stayed up on an overnight retouch job. I am now bundled up in a blanket trying not to fall asleep on my laptop. I thought now would be the appropriate time to post this picture of Lauren, one of the several lovely new friends I made last week on my friend Gabi's hen do in Budapest. The image was shot outside our hostel on the last night of the trip after 3 nights out in a row. Thanks Lauren for making sleeping on the street look so classy!

Well I have really enjoyed my Bank Holidays. If only for the reason that for the first time this year I am up to date with all my work! I have even had chance to prepare these images for the old bloggy blog. They are a selection of images I shot in April for Flannels designer store. The images were shot over two days in the new Manchester store. Our models were Natalia from Models 1 and Adam Cowie from Boss... both a pleasure to work with.

A little musical tour around iconic places in Manchester (and Salford of course!) Isabel Dickens was our beautiful model and Rebecca Anderton and Zoe Hancock provided the make up and styling dream team! We had an ace sunny Saturday road trip in Stephanie (Rebecca's beloved Corsa) visiting the Hulme footbridge where Joy Division were photographed in the 80s, Salford Lads club for a Smiths pilgrimage, Mr Sifters record shop and Southern Cemetery Gates. It was a very comical day and felt like a bit of a holiday sight seeing trip in our very own city.

Recent creative test with the wonderful Jessica Lara. Jessica is a natural performer so we took advantage of that by asking her to be five characters in one afternoon! Zoe Hancock styled 5 different looks for different types of girls from an American yearbook... geeky, preppy, hula girl, high school sweetheart and the rebel. Rebecca Anderton also gave us 5 amazing hair and make up looks to complete the transformation. Lots of fun for everyone! And yes the title of this post was taken from the song in Grease 2 because although I'd love to be the rebel, I'm almost definately the geek.

Recent shots from tests with Gareth and Jourdana. Both brilliant models and very easy to work with. My approach to work of late has taken on a simpler, stripped back quality. I am not sure if I am subconsiously being influenced by these hard times we are facing. Working from home a lot means I get my 5-a-day dose of national news. 'Austerity' seems to be the buzz word of politicians and the press and I think it might be getting into my psyche.

Still, whatever the influence I am liking the results and there are more images to come from these recent tests. They will be up soon!

Two shots from a test in October with selected New Face girls at Boss Models - Kate, Lucy, Ella, Cailin and Rebecca. The top image was the look we were aiming for but the image below I really like too in the way it shows more character, it was a fun and very girly afternoon and I think this image captures my memory of it. This was a very agency driven test for their promotions but I would like to do another test with a few models together in a more classic style, maybe black and white location shots. Who knows, maybe in the New Year!

Well, I am finally winding down for Christmas and since I haven't been posting a lot over the last couple of months I amy as well start be explaining why!

The images above are from a job at the end of October for Real Kids. Each year they renew the kid models images and take on some new faces aswell. It was my job to photograph them all and with 5 solids days of shooting and 15 - 20 images for 200+ kids it was a huuuge job!

All done dusted and delivered now though and all the kids look lovely. Thanks to Alex Bell for Make Up, Styling and general moral support on these shoots!

Finally managed to take some time out from work to shoot a new fashion story. For choosing locations I like to get out into the country but to make things a bit different this time I wanted to introduce some industrial elements, very much the northern country landscape that I have grown up with. Still enjoying black and white and the atmosphere it lends to simple images and mostly glad we managed to get a full story out of a day of really grim weather!

This week I turned my back garden into a studio for a test with Daisy who needed something bright and summery for her book.

This was the last shot from Katie Miller's test yesterday and I thought it deserved to be put straight up as both me and Katie survived spider attacks and nearly trod in dog poo on several occasions to get it. It's a very glamorous life! More to come on this shoot very soon.

Most of the stuff in there I am sick of the sight of but I found this little photo that I quite liked. This is just a scan from a tiny print but I will try to root out the old films. A few more photos here than I would normally put up but I took so many I couldn't decide!
